Use Shape Builders
Combine editable vectors, SVGs, groups, or text with Shape Builder actions such as Unite, Subtract, Intersect, and Exclude.
Combine vector shapes, imported SVGs, groups, or text into new shapes using boolean actions: union, subtract, intersect, and exclude intersection. Reach for it whenever you need a custom shape that isn't in the elements library, like a logo mark built from overlapping icons.
When Shape Builders is available
Select two or more of the following, and the Shape Builders section appears in the right panel:
Vector objects
Groups of shapes
Imported SVG elements
Editable text
Combine shapes with Shape Builders
Select the vector elements you want to combine.
Open the right panel and find the Shape Builders section.
Hover each icon to see its name, then click the one that fits:
Union: Merges every selected shape into one.
Subtract: Cuts the top shape from the one below it.
Intersect: Keeps only the area where your shapes overlap.
Exclude Intersection: Removes the overlapping area and keeps everything else.
Your new shape appears instantly on the canvas.
Refine your result
Double-click the new shape to enter vector editing mode, where you can adjust its nodes and curves like any other path.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Shape Builders in the right panel
Check that your selection has two or more eligible elements (vector objects, groups, SVGs, or editable text) and doesn't include any pixel-based images or clipart.
Common questions
Can I use Shape Builders on photos or pixel images?
No. Shape Builders only works on vector objects, groups, imported SVGs, and editable text. Try Image Vectorizer first if you want to combine a photo or image with other shapes.
Can I edit the shape after combining it?
Yes. Double-click the result to enter vector editing mode and adjust its nodes and curves.
