Use version history
View auto-saved project versions in Kittl and restore an earlier version when you need to recover previous design work. [VERIFY — Yuna]
Version history automatically saves snapshots of your project as you work, so you can preview and restore an earlier version if something goes wrong. Use it to recover from an editor crash, an accidental deletion, or any change you want to undo once your regular undo history is gone.
Before you start
Version history is available on Pro, Expert, and Max plans. It isn't available on the Free plan.
It's currently only supported in the browser editor, not on mobile.
Version history covers the last 30 days per project. Once you scroll to the oldest entry, you'll see a message letting you know you've reached the end of that window.
Your project needs at least one automatic snapshot before there's anything to restore. A new snapshot saves roughly every 15 minutes while you're actively making changes, so a brand new project or one with no recent edits may not have a version yet.
Open version history
You can get to version history two ways:
From the main menu: click the menu icon in the top left corner, then click Version History at the bottom of the menu.
From the right panel: click the history icon in the row just below the Share and Export buttons, at the top of the right panel.
Either way, you'll land on the Version History page, with a list of every saved snapshot on the right, newest at the top, labeled Current version.
Preview and restore a version
On the Version History page, click any entry in the list to preview it. The canvas updates to show that version, and the bar at the top shows Saved on [date and time].
If it's not the version you want, keep browsing the list, or click Back to Editor in the top left to leave without making any changes.
Once you've found the version you want, click Restore this version.
You'll be asked to confirm, since restoring may affect recent changes made by other collaborators. Click Restore to proceed, or Cancel to go back without restoring.
Expected outcome
Once you confirm, your project reverts to that exact state and you're taken back to the editor. Before the switch happens, Kittl automatically saves your current state as a new snapshot first, so the work you had before restoring is never lost. You can find it again on the list.
If you're collaborating with others, keep in mind the warning that appears before you restore: recent changes made by other people in the project can be affected, so it's worth checking with them before restoring an older version.
Troubleshooting
I don't see a "Version History" option in my menu
This means your plan doesn't currently include version history. Check that you have an active Pro, Expert, or Max subscription.
The list looks empty, or only shows "Current version"
Snapshots are only created automatically while you have an active paying plan, so a project you just started or haven't edited in the last 15 minutes or so may not have any saved yet.
I restored a version and lost a change a collaborator just made
Restoring reverts the whole project to the selected snapshot, which can overwrite recent edits from other people in the file. That's why you'll see a warning before you confirm. If this happens, look for the snapshot saved automatically just before the restore. It captures your project's state right up to that point, so the overwritten change should be there.
Common questions
How often does a new version save?
Automatically, about every 15 minutes while you're actively editing on a paying plan. There's currently no way to save a version manually.
How far back does version history go?
Up to 30 days per project.
Can I lose my current work by restoring an old version?
No. Your current state is saved as a new snapshot right before restoring, so you can switch back to it at any time.
Can I use version history on mobile?
Not yet. It's currently only available in the browser editor.
