Artboard handling

Create, rename, move, duplicate, resize, clip, download, and delete artboards while adjusting key artboard settings.

Artboards define the boundaries of your design in Kittl. Use them to set canvas size, organise multiple designs in one project, and control what gets exported.

#Create new artboards

1. Open a project or start a new one.

2. Select the Artboard tool [A] in the toolbar at the bottom of the editor, below the AI input box.

3. Click and drag on your canvas to draw a new artboard.

4. Use the corner points to change the dimensions. Hold [Shift] to unlock proportional scaling.

5. Use the settings panel on the right to enter exact values, change the artboard background color, or toggle between clipping mode and unclipped mode.

#Rename an artboard

1. Double-click the artboard title to edit the name.

2. Type the new name.

3. Click outside to exit editing mode.

#Move artboards

1. Select the title of an artboard.

2. Drag it to a new position.

3. Hold [shift] to constrain movement horizontally or vertically.

#Duplicate artboard

#Option 1 — contextual taskbar:

1. Select the title of an artboard to activate the contextual taskbar.

2. Click the duplicate icon.

#Option 2 — copy and paste:

1. Right-click the artboard title and choose Copy [Cmd/Ctrl+C].

2. Right-click on your canvas and choose Paste [Cmd/Ctrl+V].

#Change the artboard size

1. Select the artboard title to open the settings panel on the right.

2. Use the Artboard Size presets to choose a default size, or drag the corner points to resize manually. Hold [Shift] to unlock proportional scaling.

3. Use the settings panel on the right to enter exact width and height values, change the background color, or toggle clipping mode.

#Artboard clipping

By default, elements dragged inside an artboard area clip to it automatically. Anything outside the artboard boundary won't appear in exports.

• To disable clipping, select the artboard and turn off Clip content in the settings panel on the right.

• To re-enable it, select the artboard and turn Clip content back on.

#Change dimension units

1. Click the menu icon in the top left of your screen.

2. Hover over Settings.

3. Select your preferred unit from the submenu: Inches (in), Pixels (px), or Millimetres (mm).

#Download artboards

1. Click Export in the top right of the screen. The Export panel opens on the right.

2. Click the artboard dropdown at the top of the panel to choose which artboards to export. You can select all artboards or tick individual ones from the list.

3. Enter the width (W) and height (H) values for the export size.

4. Choose a file format from the format dropdown: PNG and JPEG work well for digital use; SVG and PDF are better for print.

5. Enter a DPI value. Higher DPI is recommended for print; lower DPI for digital.

6. Under Color, choose a color profile. Use RGB (Web & screens) for digital exports, or CMYK for print.

7. Under Additional settings, enable Remove background for a transparent export, or Optimize quality to improve image output. These are premium features.

8. Click Export. When exporting multiple artboards, your files will be downloaded as a zip folder. The project name is used as the file name.

#Delete artboards

Option 1: keyboard

1. Select the title of an artboard.

2. Press [Backspace] to delete it.

Option 2: contextual taskbar

1. Select the title of an artboard to activate the contextual taskbar.

2. Click the three dots on the right of the taskbar.

3. Select Delete.
