Fix a download you can't find

Can't find a design after downloading it? Check your browser's downloads list, search your device, and fix common download settings that send files somewhere unexpected.

If you've downloaded a design but can't find it on your device, don't worry, your file isn't lost. This almost always comes down to where your browser saved it, a download that didn't finish, or a setting that's sending files somewhere you're not expecting. The steps below will help you track it down.

Troubleshooting steps

1. Check your browser's downloads list

Your browser's downloads list shows both whether the file finished downloading and where it saved, so it's the first place to look.

  1. Open your browser.

  2. Open the downloads list:

    • Chrome: Cmd + Shift + J (Mac) or Ctrl + J (Windows), or click the download icon in the top right.

    • Safari: Cmd + Option + L.

    • Firefox: Cmd + Shift + Y (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + Y (Windows).

  3. Find your file and check its status.

    • If it shows "Failed," "Canceled," or a progress bar that's stuck: skip ahead to step 4 to try the download again.

    • If it shows as complete: click Show in folder (or Show in Finder on a Mac). If the file opens, you're all set. If the folder opens without the file, it may have been moved or deleted since, so continue to the next step.

    • If you don't see the file in the list at all: it may have been downloaded in a different browser, cleared from your download history, or saved during a private or incognito session that doesn't keep a record. Continue to the next step to search your device directly.

2. Search your device for the file

If your browser saved the file somewhere other than the default folder, a device-wide search is the fastest way to find it.

  1. Open your computer's search (Spotlight on Mac, Windows Search on PC).

  2. Search for the file name, or for a file type like .png, .jpg, .pdf, or .svg.

  3. Sort by date modified and check the most recent files.

If you find it there, you're all set. If not, continue to the next step.

3. Check your browser's download settings

If the downloads list and device search above didn't turn up the file, it's worth confirming where your browser saves files, and whether a missed prompt is the real problem.

4. Download the design again

If you still can't find the file, it's possible the download never completed or saved correctly the first time.

  1. Go back to your project in Kittl.

  2. Click Download.

  3. Keep the tab open until the download finishes.

5. Check whether your browser blocked the download

Some browsers block downloads automatically as a security measure, especially for larger files.

  1. Look near the address bar for a blocked download icon or warning.

  2. If you see one, click it and choose to allow the download.

  3. Try downloading the design again.

6. Check your device's storage space

If your device is low on storage, downloads can fail silently without an error message.

  1. Check your available storage:

    • Mac: Apple menu > About This Mac > Storage.

    • Windows: Settings > System > Storage.

  2. Free up space if it's running low.

  3. Download the design again.

7. Try another browser or device

If none of the steps above turn up your file, try downloading from a different browser (Chrome tends to be the most reliable) or a different device to rule out a local issue.
