Use Chat in the editor
Open Chat in the editor, ask for design ideas, generate or edit images from prompts, and iterate without leaving the canvas.
Chat lets you generate images, edit them, and get design advice just by describing what you want, all without leaving the canvas. Use it when you'd rather talk through an idea than set up a prompt and model yourself.
Before you start
Chat is available on all plans and is currently in beta. Chatting is free. You only spend tokens when you ask Chat to generate or edit an image, which uses five tokens each time. Questions, brainstorming, and design advice don't cost anything. See Tokens in Kittl for how tokens work.
Start a conversation
Click Chat in the left toolbar.
Type what you want in the message box at the bottom of the panel. For example:
"Brainstorm logo ideas for a bakery."
"Create a retro poster with a cat on a bicycle."
"Create an image that explains how beer is made."
You can also click one of the Create a ideas (like Botanical pattern or Retro album cover) to fill in a ready-made prompt.
Click Send.
Chat replies with ideas, or shows Working on Your Image while it creates something for you.
Generate images from a prompt
Describe the scene, style, or idea you have in mind, and Chat turns it into an image. The more detail you give (colors, style, lighting, format), the closer the result. If you need a specific format (square, landscape, portrait), mention it in your prompt.
Edit and refine images
Once you have an image, keep the conversation going to change it. Just tell Chat what to adjust:
Under each new image, you'll see suggested edits. Click one to fill in a detailed prompt, then edit it or click Send.
Work with your own images
Click the upload icon in the bottom-left corner of the message box.
Select up to 10 images from your computer.
Describe what you want
Click Send.
You can also ask about an uploaded design without changing it, like "What font style should I use to match this poster?”
Move images between Chat and your canvas
Add a Chat image to your canvas
Hover over an image in Chat.
Click the plus (+) icon in its bottom-left corner.
The image lands on your canvas, ready to design with. Every image Chat creates is also saved to your Uploads left panel under AI Generated, and to AI Creations in Projects on your dashboard.
Send a canvas image to Chat
Right-click an image on your canvas.
Select Use in Chat. The image is added to the Chat message box automatically.
Describe what you want.
Click Send.
Start a new chat
Click the plus (+) icon at the top of the Chat panel.
Click Confirm.
Troubleshooting
Chat says it can't do what I asked.
Chat focuses on creating and editing images, design advice, and brainstorming. It can't upscale images, and it may decline some requests involving photos of real people. For upscaling, use AI Image Upscaler instead.
Chat gave me instructions that didn't match the editor.
Chat is great at making images, but it doesn't always know the details of every editor tool, so its how-to answers can be off. For step-by-step help with a feature, search this help center instead.
My image came out in the wrong shape.
Mention the format you want (square, landscape, or portrait) in your prompt, or ask Chat to redo it in a different format.
Common questions
How much does Chat cost?
Chatting is free. Tokens are only used when Chat generates or edits an image, at five tokens each, on every plan.
Is my chat saved?
Yes, your current chat is linked to your account, not to a project. It stays there when you reload the page or open another project. It's only erased when you start a new chat.
Can I get an old chat back?
No. Chat keeps one conversation at a time, so starting a new one erases the last. Your generated images stay in AI Generated.
How many images can I upload at once?
Up to 10 per message.
Why don't my Chat images show up in My Creations?
That's expected. My Creations in the AI Gallery doesn't include images made in Chat. You'll find them in the AI Generated folder in Uploads, in AI Creations on your dashboard, or in History in AI Studio.
Can I make an image's background transparent?
Yes. Just ask: "Remove the background and make it transparent."
