Understand how Kittl tokens work, where to check your balance, which AI features use them, and how to buy extra tokens.
Tokens power Kittl’s AI features. They’re what lets you generate images, videos, and creative content. Understanding how tokens work helps you stay in control of your usage and get the most out of your plan.
What are tokens?
Tokens are the currency for unlocking AI-powered features. Each action consumes a number of tokens depending on the feature and model you use.
Each action uses a number of tokens, giving you a simple way to enhance your designs, speed up workflows, and explore creative variations. Tokens are tied to the real cost of running the AI models Kittl partners with, including OpenAI, Black Forest Labs' Flux models, Stable Diffusion, and ByteDance's Seedream models.
Token allocation by plan
Your token balance depends on your subscription:
Free plan: 100 tokens, one-time. Enough to generate up to 10 standard images.
Pro plan: 2,000 tokens per month, per editor.
Expert plan: 12,000 tokens per month per editor, which includes 6,000 monthly tokens plus 200 daily tokens.
Max plan: 30,000 tokens per month per editor, which includes 12,000 monthly tokens plus 600 daily tokens.
How tokens work
You spend tokens when you use AI-powered features, including AI Image Generator, AI Video Generator, Edit Area, AI Workflows, Chat, and Reframe.
Token costs vary by feature and AI model, and can change as model pricing changes, so treat any specific number as an estimate rather than a fixed rate. Video generation generally costs more than images. For example, an 8-second Veo 3.1 clip with audio can cost up to around 640 tokens. If a generation fails or doesn't complete, your tokens are automatically refunded.
Check the cost before you generate
Every AI-powered tool shows you the token cost for your current settings before you generate, so there are no surprises.
In the AI input box, the cost updates automatically as you switch between AI models in the model picker.
Hover over the arrow up (send) button to see the token cost for your current settings before you click it.
Do tokens roll over?
No: tokens included in your subscription don’t roll over.
Yes: purchased tokens never expire.
Buy extra tokens
If you need more, you can purchase additional tokens. This is available on Pro, Expert, and Max plans.
From Team Settings
From the home page, click your profile photo in the upper-right corner.
Click Settings.
Under your team's name, click Plan & Billing.
Under Monthly Token Balance, click Get More Tokens.
From the editor (Expert plan only)
Open the editor.
Click AI Tokens in the bottom toolbar.
Click Get More Tokens.
Expected outcome
Your new tokens are added to your balance right after checkout. They show up as Extra Tokens in Plan & Billing and in the token breakdown in the editor toolbar.
Check your token balance
You can track your tokens anytime.
From the editor
Click your token balance in the bottom toolbar to display the breakdown of your tokens.
From Plan & Billing
Click your profile photo in the upper-right corner, then Settings, then Plan & Billing under your team's name, to see your monthly tokens and extra tokens listed separately.
Tokens from campaigns
Tokens from promotions and campaigns are added as Extra Tokens. They don't expire unless the offer says otherwise, and you can use them just like regular tokens.
To view them, click your profile photo in the upper-right corner, then Settings > Plan & Billing.
Tips for using tokens wisely
Start with image generation before moving to video. It’s cheaper, so you can test your prompt first.
Test different prompts before generating large batches.
Choose AI models based on your needs. Higher-quality models use more tokens.
Keep an eye on your balance in the bottom toolbar while you work.
Troubleshooting
I don't see the option to buy extra tokens.
Extra tokens are available on Pro, Expert, and Max plans only. If you're on the Free plan, upgrade first to unlock the option.
I bought extra tokens, but they're not showing up in my balance.
Refresh the page and check Plan & Billing again. If they still don't appear after a few minutes, contact support with your order confirmation so we can look into it.
My generation failed, but I still lost tokens.
Tokens are deducted as soon as the generation starts. If it fails or doesn't complete, they're refunded automatically. If your balance doesn't reflect the refund within a few minutes, contact support.
Common questions
Why don’t my monthly tokens roll over?
Tokens reflect real AI processing costs, so each plan refreshes monthly to match usage limits. Extra tokens you purchase are the exception, they never expire.
Why does video generation use so many tokens?
Video generation needs significantly more computing resources than image generation, so it costs more tokens. See "Check the cost before you generate" above to compare costs before you commit to a generation.
Where can I see my token balance?
You can track tokens in two ways:
In the Editor: Click the tokens balance (bottom toolbar) to see usage while you create.
In Plan & Billing: Click your profile photo in the upper-right corner, then Settings, then Plan & Billing, to view your full balance.
Can I purchase extra tokens?
Yes. Pro, Expert, and Max plan users can purchase extra tokens.
